Impact
The OpenClaw gateway validates only a single DNS lookup for a supplied file URL but then passes the original hostname to a Synology NAS. This allows a DNS rebinding attack where the attacker can trick the NAS into fetching a private or otherwise blocked resource and delivering its contents to a Synology Chat conversation. The flaw enables a server‑side request forgery and could reveal internal network data or files, depending on how the NAS routes requests and resolves DNS names. The weakness is a classic DNS rebinding vulnerability (CWE‑918).
Affected Systems
Vulnerable OpenClaw gateway versions 2026.7.1 through 2026.7.9 when used with Synology Chat attachment delivery. The affected component is the OpenClaw application (OpenClaw gateway) that interacts with Synology NAS devices. The bug is fixed in OpenClaw 2026.8.1.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score of 7.1 places this issue in the high severity range. EPSS information is unavailable, and the vulnerability is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog, so no current exploitation campaigns are documented. Nevertheless, the attack vector is remote, occurring through a legitimate attachment forwarding feature, and an attacker only needs a convincing URL to perform the rebinding. The practical impact depends on the NAS's DNS handling and internal routing, but the potential for confidential data exposure makes this a serious concern.
