Impact
The vulnerability is an improper validation of a specified quantity in input received by the routing protocol daemon. When a BGP EVPN session receives a malformed NLRI, the daemon crashes, causing a denial of service that disrupts routing functionality and may temporarily deny network connectivity to affected devices.
Affected Systems
Affected products are Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved. The issue is present in a range of releases, including 23.2R2-S7.7 through 26.4R1 and all subsequent releases of Junos OS, and the corresponding Evo releases listed in the advisory. Any system running a version prior to those updates with the specified respins is also vulnerable.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score is 8.7, classifying the issue as high severity. The EPSS score is < 1%, and the vulnerability is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog. Attackers would need the ability to send a specially crafted BGP EVPN NLRI to a peer; the crash occurs without privilege escalation, so the primary risk is service disruption to the victim device.
