Description
An
authentication weakness exists in the TP-Link TDDP v2 service of TP-Link RE305
V3. TDDP v2 uses a fixed and derivable cryptographic key, which may allow an
unauthenticated attacker on the same local network to forge protocol packets
and access privileged TDDP operations, including functionality that can lead to
operating-system command execution when the TDDP service is running and
accessible.

Successful
exploitation may allow an unauthenticated attacker on the same local area
network to execute arbitrary system commands with root privileges.

Impact

The vulnerability resides in the TP‑Link TDDP v2 service on the RE305 V3 router. A fixed, derivable cryptographic key is used, allowing an attacker to forge protocol packets. This can result in unauthorized privileged operations, including the ability to execute operating‑system commands. The exploit achieves root‑level command execution, compromising the entire device.

Affected Systems

TP‑Link Systems Inc. RE305 V3 routers are affected. No additional products or versions are listed in the current data.

Risk and Exploitability

The CVSS score of 8.7 indicates a high impact with remote code execution potential. EPSS is not available, so the likelihood of exploitation cannot be quantified, but the lack of a KEV listing suggests no publicly available exploits have yet been recorded. The attack likely requires local network access and the ability to send crafted packets to the TDDP service. An unauthenticated local attacker could therefore exploit this weakness to gain full system control.

Remediation

No solution or workaround provided in the CVE record.

OpenCVE Recommended Actions

  • Update the router firmware to the latest TP‑Link released version that fixes the TDDP authentication issue.
  • Limit local network access by isolating management interfaces or employing VLAN segmentation.
  • Disable the TDDP service or restrict its exposure if it is not required for your environment.
