Impact
The Plane GraphQL joinProject mutation is missing proper access control checks. As a result, any member of a workspace can add themselves to any project within that workspace, even projects marked private or secret. By doing so, a low‑privilege member obtains a full Member role, granting read and write permissions to confidential data. This vulnerability is a classic CWE‑284 Broken Access Control that allows attackers to read and modify sensitive project information without proper authorization.
Affected Systems
The vulnerability affects the open‑source project management tool Plane from makeplane. All releases prior to v1.4.0 are impacted. Version 1.4.0 and later contain the fix.
Risk and Exploitability
With a CVSS score of 8.7, the vulnerability is classified as high severity. The EPSS score is unavailable, and the threat is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog. The attack is likely initiated via the public GraphQL API; any authenticated workspace member can exploit the flaw without additional privileges. The barrier to exploitation is low, making the risk significant for any environment where Plane is used for confidential project data.
