Impact
An use-after-free vulnerability exists in the modularization subsystem of Google Chrome prior to version 155.0.8059.39. The flaw allows a remote attacker to craft a malicious HTML page that is parsed by Chrome and causes freed memory to be reused, enabling arbitrary code execution inside the browser sandbox. This is a use-after-free weakness identified as CWE-416 and can compromise the confidentiality and integrity of the user session.
Affected Systems
Google Chrome browsers that have not been updated to version 155.0.8059.39 or newer are vulnerable. All desktop releases of Chrome on any operating system that include the affected modularization code are affected until the security patch is applied.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS base score is 8.8, indicating high severity. The EPSS score is not available, so the current exploitation probability is unknown, but the vulnerability is exploitable via a remote crafted HTML page that a user might view in the browser. The vulnerability is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog, and no official workaround is documented; therefore, the risk remains high for all users of the affected Chrome versions until they update.
