Description
The Kirki – Freeform Page Builder, Website Builder & Customizer plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Insecure Direct Object Reference in all versions up to, and including, 6.3.2 via the 'context' parameter due to missing validation on a user controlled key. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to expose arbitrary users' sensitive profile data — including email address, display name, nicename, registration date, profile image URL, and any string-valued user meta fields such as first name, last name, nickname, description, and custom meta keys — via the REST response. Exploitation requires a published page that uses a Kirki template containing at least one user-type dynamic content block; target user IDs are enumerable via standard WordPress REST endpoints, making the only prerequisite the presence of such a template on the site.

Impact

The vulnerability is an insecure direct object reference that allows an unauthenticated user to retrieve arbitrary profile information. By supplying a crafted 'context' value, an attacker can trigger the plugin to expose user identifiers and personal data such as email, display name, registration date, avatar URL, and text-based meta fields. The weakness is an example of Information Disclosure via an insufficiently validated gain of access – CWE-639.

Affected Systems

The issue affects the Kirki – Freeform Page Builder, Website Builder & Customizer WordPress plugin from themeum, specifically all plugin releases up to and including 6.3.2. Sites that host pages using Kirki templates containing user-type dynamic content blocks are vulnerable.

Risk and Exploitability

The CVSS score of 7.5 indicates high severity, but no EPSS data is available and the vulnerability is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog. An attacker can exploit the flaw without authentication by targeting any published page that uses a Kirki template. Target user IDs are enumerated via standard WordPress REST endpoints, which means the only prerequisite is the presence of an exposed template on the site. The lack of authentication requirements and the ability to programmatically obtain sensitive data make this vulnerability readily exploitable in practice.

Remediation

No solution or workaround provided in the CVE record.

OpenCVE Recommended Actions

  • Upgrade the Kirki plugin to the latest available version, which removes the insecure 'context' processing logic.
  • If an immediate upgrade is not possible, disable or remove Kirki templates that contain user-type dynamic content blocks from the site.
  • Patch or override the plugin’s 'context' handling to enforce strict validation, ensuring that only authorized users can access profile data or that the sensitive fields are omitted from REST responses.
