Impact
Grav runs on several web servers that block .git directories only at the document root. This allows any unauthenticated user to request nested repositories (for example user/.git) and retrieve Git configuration files, references, and objects, enabling reconstruction of unpublished history and the discovery of committed secrets. The vulnerability therefore exposes sensitive information to attackers. The impact is purely disclosure of data; there is no code execution or tampering capability. The weakness is a directory traversal or path handling issue (CWE-527).
Affected Systems
The issue is present in Grav versions prior to 2.1.7. The product is Grav (getgrav), as listed by the CNA. Any deployment of Grav before 2.1.7 running nginx, lighttpd, IIS or Caddy 2 is affected.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score of 8.7 classifies it as a high‑severity information‑disclosure vulnerability. EPSS data is not available and the vulnerability is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog. The likely attack vector is a simple HTTP request to a nested .git directory via the web server. No authentication is required and no special privileges are needed.
