Impact
IBM WebSphere Application Server 9.0 and 8.5 are affected by a remote code execution vulnerability located in the SOAP/JMX connector. The flaw permits an attacker to deliver crafted requests to the connector, resulting in execution of arbitrary code within the WebSphere process accounting for the process privileges.
Affected Systems
IBM WebSphere Application Server versions 8.5.0.0 through 8.5.5.29 and 9.0.0.0 through 9.0.5.28. The recommended approach is to upgrade to the minimal fix pack levels required by the interim fix and then apply Interim Fix PH71714, or to apply Fix Pack 9.0.5.29 or later for the 9.0 line or Fix Pack 8.5.5.30 or later for the 8.5 line.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score of 8.5 signifies high severity. The EPSS score of 0.00337 (less than 1%) indicates a very low exploitation probability, yet the vulnerability is remotely accessible over the network via the SOAP/JMX connector. It is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog and no public exploit has been reported, but the combination of high CVSS and remote attack vector warrants monitoring and timely remediation.
