Description
CallBackery versions before 0.62.0 for Perl send users their own password hash and the admin-only user note via getUserConfig.

getUserConfig() returns the caller's whole cbuser row, including the stored password hash and the note field that the user interface shows only to administrators. getTableData() and getAllFieldValues() in the user management plugins also return the note to users without the admin right.

A non-administrator can read the notes administrators keep about them, and an attacker who obtains a session token can get that user's password hash and crack it offline.

Impact

A flaw in CallBackery’s configuration endpoints allows a non‑administrator to retrieve the full user record, including the hashed password and notes intended only for administrators, through getUserConfig, getTableData, and getAllFieldValues. The result is the disclosure of sensitive authentication data and confidential admin remarks, enabling attackers to acquire password hashes and potentially crack them offline, as well as access private notes about the user.

Affected Systems

The vulnerability affects all versions of CallBackery written in Perl that precede 0.62.0. Any deployment that exposes the getUserConfig, getTableData, or getAllFieldValues APIs to unprivileged users is impacted. No specific external platform versions are listed; all older releases are vulnerable.

Risk and Exploitability

The risk is significant because the exposed data allows user impersonation and private data theft. Exploitation requires that the attacker have a valid session token or login credentials for the target user. EPSS score is not available and the vulnerability is not listed in CISA’s KEV catalog, but the lack of protection for stored password hashes and admin notes makes it highly valuable to adversaries. The CVSS score is not supplied in the available data.

Remediation

Vendor Solution

Upgrade to CallBackery 0.62.0 or later.

OpenCVE Recommended Actions

  • Upgrade CallBackery to version 0.62.0 or later to remove the data leakage.
  • Modify or disable the getUserConfig, getTableData, and getAllFieldValues endpoints for non‑administrators, or rewrite them to exclude the password hash and note fields from returned data.
  • Ensure user session tokens are protected by using HTTPS, storing them securely, and invalidating them promptly upon logout.
