Impact
Temporal Server's Worker Controller Instance module registers a k8s compute provider that builds a Kubernetes client from configuration supplied by the caller. This allows the provider to execute arbitrary commands on the Worker Service host, as the server process runs with cluster persistence and TLS credentials. The vulnerability is identified as CWE‑78 (OS Command Injection) and other CWEs. The result is remote code execution on the server and full cluster compromise, affecting confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
Affected Systems
The affected product is Temporal Server from Temporal Technologies, Inc. Versions 1.31.0 through 1.31.2, and 1.32.0 and later, are vulnerable if the dynamic configuration setting workercontroller.compute_providers.enabled includes or does not deny the k8s provider. Versions 1.32.2 and 1.31.5 removed the k8s compute provider from default builds, making the flaw non‑existent in those releases. The 1.30 line is unaffected because it does not contain the module.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score of 8.7 indicates a high severity vulnerability. EPSS data is not available but the lack of a KEV listing suggests no known active exploitation, yet the attack can be carried out by any authenticated caller that can invoke the read‑only ValidateWorkerDeploymentVersionComputeConfig endpoint. Based on the description, it is inferred that the attacker can trigger the vulnerability by making a call to the ValidateWorkerDeploymentVersionComputeConfig endpoint with a crafted compute configuration, which does not require a worker deployment to exist. Because the Worker Service process holds the persistence credentials for every namespace in the cluster and the cluster's TLS material, the consequence reaches beyond the caller's namespace to the cluster as a whole.
