Impact
Sync‑in Server exposes a ReDoS vulnerability in the sync diff endpoint. An attacker can send a specially crafted path filter string, such as ^(a+)+b, which causes catastrophic backtracking when compiled into a RegExp. This stalls the Node.js event loop, rendering the entire server unresponsive to all users until a restart. The flaw stems from unsanitized user input being directly inserted into a regular expression with no complexity validation.
Affected Systems
Sync‑in Server versions earlier than 2.4.0, running on any supported Node.js environment, are affected. The issue was patched in version 2.4.0.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score is 6.5, indicating moderate severity. EPSS is not available and the CVE is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog. The likely attack vector is remote exploitation via the sync diff HTTP API, where a malicious user can abuse the pathFilters parameter. The vulnerability does not allow code execution or privilege escalation but causes full service disruption, which is costly in a shared server environment.
