Description
Frappe HR is an open-source human resources management solution (HRMS). Prior to 15.58.3 and 16.4.3, HRMS PWA API endpoints for employee data do not consistently authorize employee-specific PWA API requests. An authenticated user requests records associated with another employee. The user can request records associated with another employee through PWA API endpoints. Successful exploitation can access sensitive HR data belonging to other employees. This issue is fixed in versions 15.58.3 and 16.4.3.

Impact

The vulnerability arises from missing authorization checks on specific Progressive Web App (PWA) API endpoints used to retrieve employee data. An authenticated user can request records associated with another employee, enabling privileged access to sensitive HR information. The flaw is based on improper authorization and does not involve privilege escalation beyond the current user credentials.

Affected Systems

This issue affects the Frappe HRMS open‑source product prior to version 15.58.3 and 16.4.3. All deployments that rely on the affected PWA endpoints and have not applied the published updates are susceptible.

Risk and Exploitability

The CVSS score of 6.5 indicates a moderate severity. No EPSS score is available, but the vulnerability is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog, suggesting no current widespread exploitation reports. An attacker must first authenticate to the system and then invoke the vulnerable PWA API endpoints, which are accessible over the network. Successful exploitation grants access to confidential employee data that belongs to other users.

No solution or workaround provided in the CVE record.

OpenCVE Recommended Actions

  • Upgrade Frappe HRMS to version 15.58.3 or later, or to version 16.4.3 or later, which contain the authorization fix for the PWA API endpoints.
  • If an immediate upgrade is not possible, disable or restrict access to the affected PWA endpoints via firewall or application configuration to prevent unauthenticated or unauthorized requests.
  • Conduct an inventory check of installed HRMS versions. Immediately roll out the fixed releases to all affected instances.
