Impact
The Kicker theme for WordPress—versions 2.2.1 and earlier—contains an unauthenticated PHP Object Injection flaw (CWE‑502). An attacker can supply crafted serialized PHP data that is unserialized by the theme without authentication, leading to arbitrary code execution on the web server and full compromise of the affected WordPress site.
Affected Systems
Axiomthemes’ Kicker theme is vulnerable in all releases up to and including version 2.2.1. Any WordPress site deploying one of those versions is at risk.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score of 9.8 places this issue in the critical category. EPSS information is not provided and the vulnerability is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog, yet the high severity and lack of authentication and the public nature of WordPress sites mean an attacker with internet access can easily exploit the flaw by sending a crafted POST request to the theme’s PHP endpoint. The exploit path requires no special privileges and can be executed remotely from any network able to reach the site.
