Impact
A use‑after‑free flaw in Windows Audio Service permits an authorized local user to execute code with higher privileges than the user normally possesses. This escalation can grant full control over the affected system, compromising confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The weakness is a classic example of memory corruption identified as CWE-416.
Affected Systems
Microsoft Windows 10 versions 1809, 21H2, 22H2; Microsoft Windows 11 versions 23H2, 24H2, 25H2, 26H2, 26H1; Microsoft Windows Server 2019 (including Server Core), Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2025 (including Server Core).
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score of 7 indicates medium severity. An EPSS score below 1 % suggests low probability of exploitation at present, and the vulnerability is not listed in CISA’s KEV catalog. Based on the description, it is inferred that the flaw requires a locally authorized user with the ability to run the audio service, reducing the attack surface compared to remote exploitation. Nevertheless, the potential for full system compromise warrants prompt remediation.
