Impact
A denial of service vulnerability exists when Microsoft Common Object Runtime Library improperly handles web requests. An attacker can cause a denial of service against a .NET web application by issuing specially crafted requests. This vulnerability is characterized by uncontrolled resource consumption and resource exhaustion, documented as CWE-405 and CWE-770.
Affected Systems
This issue affects Microsoft Visual Studio 2022 version 17.14 and Microsoft Visual Studio 2026 version 18.10, as well as the System.Security.Cryptography.Pkcs package. The affected components are part of the Microsoft Common Object Runtime Library used in .NET web applications.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score of 5.9 indicates medium severity. The EPSS score is less than 1%, and it is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog. A remote, unauthenticated attacker could exploit the flaw by sending crafted requests to a vulnerable .NET application. Because the attack requires only network access to the application, immediate patching is recommended to prevent service disruption.
