Impact
The MCP Atlassian server allows any non‑empty bearer token to be accepted by AtlassianOpaqueTokenVerifier, effectively bypassing authentication. An attacker who can reach the HTTP endpoint can impersonate the application operator, causing downstream fetcher construction to use the operator’s globally configured Jira or Confluence credentials. This enables unauthorized read and write operations against Atlassian products, leading to full control of the operator’s accounts.
Affected Systems
sooperset:mcp-atlassian releases prior to version 0.22.0 are affected. The vulnerability was fixed in release 0.22.0, which restricts token acceptance to valid, verified identities.
Risk and Exploitability
With a CVSS score of 10, the vulnerability is considered critical. No EPSS information is available, and it is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog. The attack vector is remote over the network to the MCP HTTP endpoint; no local privileges or credentials are required. An attacker who can reach the service can deploy any non‑empty token to gain operator‑level access, making exploitation highly likely if the service is exposed.
