Description
A path traversal vulnerability in the OTRS SendSupportBundle functionality allows an authenticated administrator to reference file paths outside the intended directory.

This may allow files accessible to the OTRS application process to be deleted. The vulnerability does not bypass operating system file permissions. On OTRS versions prior to OTRS 7, the effective permissions of the web server process are relevant. Starting with OTRS 7, access is limited by the permissions of the dedicated OTRS user. Files with overly permissive ownership or file system permissions may therefore also be affected.

The affected functionality may additionally attempt to include controlled files in a support bundle. However, support bundles are sent to a predefined OTRS support address, and direct disclosure of arbitrary files to the attacker has not been demonstrated.

An attacker therefore requires valid administrative access to exploit the vulnerable functionality. The primary demonstrated impact is the deletion of files outside the intended directory within the effective permissions of the OTRS application process.

This issue affects OTRS:

* 7.0.X
* 8.0.X
* 2023.X
* 2024.X
* 2025.X
* 2026.X before 2026.7.X

Please note that ((OTRS)) Community Edition 6.x and before are vulnerable. Products based on the ((OTRS)) Community Edition also very likely to be affected

Impact

The vulnerability is a path‑traversal flaw in the SendSupportBundle feature that allows an authenticated administrator to reference file paths outside the intended directory. This can lead to the deletion of any files that the OTRS application process is permitted to access. Because it does not bypass operating‑system file permissions, the impact is limited to files with permissive ownership or permissions. No direct disclosure of arbitrary files has been demonstrated.

Affected Systems

Affected products include OTRS GmbH (formerly OTRS AG) Community Edition 6.x and earlier, and the commercial OTRS product versions 7.0.x, 8.0.x, 2023.x, 2024.x, 2025.x and 2026.x before 2026.7.x. Products derived from the Community Edition are also likely affected.

Risk and Exploitability

The CVSS score of 8.7 indicates a high severity vulnerability. The EPSS score is not available, and the vulnerability is not listed in CISA’s KEV catalog, so no public exploitation has been reported to date. An attacker needs valid administrative credentials to exploit the flaw. Exploitation requires the SendSupportBundle function to be invoked with a crafted path; once executed, any file that the OTRS user can reach and is not protected by stricter permissions can be deleted. The risk is therefore confined to systems whose operating‑system permissions allow such file deletion and whose configuration permits the SendSupportBundle functionality.

Remediation

Vendor Solution

Update to latest version of OTRS (2026.7.1. or later). Please note that there will be no OTRS 7 patches

OpenCVE Recommended Actions

  • Update OTRS to the latest version 2026.7.1 or later, which removes the path‑traversal flaw.
  • If an immediate upgrade is not possible, secure the OTRS application environment by ensuring that the web server or dedicated OTRS user has the least privileges required and that files are not left with overly permissive ownership or permissions.
  • Disable or restrict the SendSupportBundle functionality if it is not needed for operational support to eliminate the attack surface.
