Impact
The vulnerability resides in the basic authentication handling of the OpenStack Network Exporter. When operators enable user authentication but fail to configure Transport Layer Security or leave TLS settings incorrect, the exporter silently ignores the authentication requirement. This fail‑open behavior allows an attacker on an adjacent network to retrieve sensitive metrics—bridge names, port counters, Open vSwitch and Open Virtual Network controller state, and host topology—without providing any credentials.
Affected Systems
Red Hat OpenStack Platform 18.0, specifically the openstack‑network‑exporter component. The exposed metrics are retrieved from Open vSwitch (OVS) and Open Virtual Network (OVN) dataplane services.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score of 7.4 indicates a high severity vulnerability. Although no EPSS value is available, the exploit is straightforward for attackers who can reach TCP port 1981 and have not enforced TLS. The vulnerability is not listed in CISA KEV, but its impact—information disclosure without authentication—demonstrates that the risk is non‑negligible, especially for environments with exposed network interfaces or inadequate firewall controls.
