Impact
An unauthenticated remote attacker can send a crafted internal management HTTP header to Nutanix Prism Element, causing the application’s authentication filters to misinterpret the request as already authenticated. The server responds with a Set‑Cookie header containing a JSESSIONID that decodes to a JSON Web Token granting maximum cluster administrative privileges. Successful exploitation allows the attacker to issue root‑level commands on all Controller VMs, leading to complete cluster destruction and unauthorized access to VM memory and virtual disks.
Affected Systems
This vulnerability affects Nutanix Acropolis Operating System (AOS) deployments. Versions that have not been updated to 7.3.1.18, 7.5.2, or 7.6.0.8 (or later) are impacted. The CPE identifier confirms the scope is limited to the AOS platform.
Risk and Exploitability
With a CVSS score of 9.3 the vulnerability is classified as critical, indicating a high likelihood of full compromise and extensive damage. The EPSS score of 0.01283% shows exploitation probability is very low but non‑zero, and the vulnerability is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog. The attack vector can be inferred to be a remote HTTP request to Prism Element’s management port (9440) from an external or compromised host that can insert the forged header, bypassing authentication before any user credentials are requested.
