Impact
The vulnerability in Siemens RUGGEDCOM CROSSBOW allows an authenticated attacker with privileged access to upload firmware files whose filenames are not properly validated or sanitized. As a result, maliciously crafted filenames can be used to inject arbitrary SQL commands into the underlying database, enabling attackers to read, modify, or delete data stored by the system.
Affected Systems
Siemens RUGGEDCOM CROSSBOW devices running any version earlier than V6.0 are affected. The flaw exists in all earlier firmware releases.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score of 8.7 classifies this as high severity. Although EPSS data is unavailable, the lack of a KEV listing suggests no confirmed widespread exploitation yet. Attackers must first authenticate with an account that has the necessary privileges to upload firmware; once authenticated, they can craft a filename to inject SQL. Due to the missing privilege restrictions, the potential impact spans confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the database.
