Impact
IBM WebSphere Application Server Liberty versions 20.0.0.12 through 26.0.0.10 contain an improper access control flaw allowing an unauthenticated remote attacker to bypass security checks on gRPC service methods. This vulnerability is a direct result of CWE-284 and can enable an attacker to execute or invoke privileged operations on the server without proper authentication, effectively granting unauthorized remote control of the application.
Affected Systems
The affected product is IBM WebSphere Application Server Liberty, specifically the 20.0.0.12 to 26.0.0.10 releases when the grpc-1.0 feature is enabled. Only installations that have turned on this gRPC feature are susceptible.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS v3.1 base score is 9.1, indicating critical severity. The EPSS score is below 1 %, meaning exploitation probability is currently very low, and the vulnerability is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog. Nevertheless, the flaw is exploitable remotely by an unauthenticated user who can send crafted gRPC requests to the vulnerable methods and bypass all configured access controls.
