Impact
A use after free flaw in the Windows Installer component enables an authorized local user to elevate privileges on the affected system. The vulnerability arises when the installer frees a memory object and a subsequent operation incorrectly references that freed memory, permitting privilege escalation.
Affected Systems
Microsoft Windows 10 versions 1607, 1809, 21H2, 22H2; Microsoft Windows 11 versions 23H2, 24H2, 25H2, 26H2, 26H1; Microsoft Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, 2022, 2025 and their Server Core installations.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score of 7 indicates a medium severity assessment. The EPSS score of less than 1% suggests a very low probability of exploitation in the wild. The vulnerability is not listed in the CISA KEV catalogue as of the latest update. Exploitation requires local authorized access; an attacker with the ability to run installer processes can trigger the use after free to elevate privileges. No additional special conditions are documented beyond requiring installer-level privileges.
