| Improper check for unusual or exceptional conditions in the Linux kernel-mode driver for some Intel(R) 800 Series Ethernet before version 1.17.2 may allow an authenticated user to potentially enable escalation of privilege via local access. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
mm: prevent poison consumption when splitting THP
When performing memory error injection on a THP (Transparent Huge Page)
mapped to userspace on an x86 server, the kernel panics with the following
trace. The expected behavior is to terminate the affected process instead
of panicking the kernel, as the x86 Machine Check code can recover from an
in-userspace #MC.
mce: [Hardware Error]: CPU 0: Machine Check Exception: f Bank 3: bd80000000070134

mce: [Hardware Error]: Machine check: Data load in unrecoverable area of kernel
Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal local machine check
The root cause of this panic is that handling a memory failure triggered
by an in-userspace #MC necessitates splitting the THP. The splitting
process employs a mechanism, implemented in
try_to_map_unused_to_zeropage(), which reads the pages in the THP to
identify zero-filled pages. However, reading the pages in the THP results
in a second in-kernel #MC, occurring before the initial memory_failure()
completes, ultimately leading to a kernel panic. See the kernel panic
call trace on the two #MCs.

Second Machine Check occurs // [6]
Kernel panic
[1] Triggered by accessing a hardware-poisoned THP in userspace, which is
typically recoverable by terminating the affected process.
[2] Call folio_set_has_hwpoisoned() before try_to_split_thp_page().
[3] Pass the RMP_USE_SHARED_ZEROPAGE remap flag to remap_page().
[4] Try to map the unused THP to zeropage.
[5] Re-access pages in the hw-poisoned THP in the kernel.
[6] Triggered in-kernel, leading to a panic kernel.
In Step[2], memory_failure() sets the poisoned flag on the page in the THP
by TestSetPageHWPoison() before calling try_to_split_thp_page().
As suggested by David Hildenbrand, fix this panic by not accessing to the
poisoned page in the THP during zeropage identification, while continuing
to scan unaffected pages in the THP for possible zeropage mapping. This
prevents a second in-kernel #MC that would cause kernel panic in Step[4].
Thanks to Andrew Zaborowski for his initial work on fixing this issue. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ext4: set goal start correctly in ext4_mb_normalize_request
We need to set ac_g_ex to notify the goal start used in
ext4_mb_find_by_goal. Set ac_g_ex instead of ac_f_ex in
ext4_mb_normalize_request.
Besides we should assure goal start is in range [first_data_block,
blocks_count) as ext4_mb_initialize_context does.
[ Added a check to make sure size is less than ar->pright; otherwise
we could end up passing an underflowed value of ar->pright - size to
ext4_get_group_no_and_offset(), which will trigger a BUG_ON later on.

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ASoC: SDCA: bug fix while parsing mipi-sdca-control-cn-list
"struct sdca_control" declares "values" field as integer array.
But the memory allocated to it is of char array. This causes
crash for sdca_parse_function API. This patch addresses the
issue by allocating correct data size. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
isdn: mISDN: hfcsusb: fix memory leak in hfcsusb_probe()
In hfcsusb_probe(), the memory allocated for ctrl_urb gets leaked when
setup_instance() fails with an error code. Fix that by freeing the urb
before freeing the hw structure. Also change the error paths to use the
goto ladder style.
Compile tested only. Issue found using a prototype static analysis tool. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
arm64/pageattr: Propagate return value from __change_memory_common
The rodata=on security measure requires that any code path which does
vmalloc -> set_memory_ro/set_memory_rox must protect the linear map alias
too. Therefore, if such a call fails, we must abort set_memory_* and caller
must take appropriate action; currently we are suppressing the error, and
there is a real chance of such an error arising post commit a166563e7ec3
("arm64: mm: support large block mapping when rodata=full"). Therefore,
propagate any error to the caller. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
mm/damon/sysfs: dealloc commit test ctx always
The damon_ctx for testing online DAMON parameters commit inputs is
deallocated only when the test fails. This means memory is leaked for
every successful online DAMON parameters commit. Fix the leak by always
deallocating it. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
RDMA/irdma: Cap MSIX used to online CPUs + 1
The irdma driver can use a maximum number of msix vectors equal
to num_online_cpus() + 1 and the kernel warning stack below is shown
if that number is exceeded.
The kernel throws a warning as the driver tries to update the affinity
hint with a CPU mask greater than the max CPU IDs. Fix this by capping
the MSIX vectors to num_online_cpus() + 1.

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
bpf: Skip scalar adjustment for BPF_NEG if dst is a pointer
In check_alu_op(), the verifier currently calls check_reg_arg() and
adjust_scalar_min_max_vals() unconditionally for BPF_NEG operations.
However, if the destination register holds a pointer, these scalar
adjustments are unnecessary and potentially incorrect.
This patch adds a check to skip the adjustment logic when the destination
register contains a pointer. |

alauda_check_media+0x344/0x3310 drivers/usb/storage/alauda.c:460
The problem is that alauda_check_media() doesn't verify that its USB
transfer succeeded before trying to use the received data. What
should happen if the transfer fails isn't entirely clear, but a
reasonably conservative approach is to pretend that no media is
present.
A similar problem exists in a usb_stor_dbg() call in
alauda_get_media_status(). In this case, when an error occurs the
call is redundant, because usb_stor_ctrl_transfer() already will print
a debugging message.
Finally, unrelated to the uninitialized memory access, is the fact
that alauda_check_media() performs DMA to a buffer on the stack.
Fortunately usb-storage provides a general purpose DMA-able buffer for
uses like this. We'll use it instead. |

rcu: dump vmalloc memory info safely
Currently, for double invoke call_rcu(), will dump rcu_head objects memory
info, if the objects is not allocated from the slab allocator, the
vmalloc_dump_obj() will be invoke and the vmap_area_lock spinlock need to

therefore, there is a possibility of spinlock deadlock scenarios.

When coalescing two resources for a contiguous aperture, the second
resource is enlarged to cover the full contiguous range, while the first
resource is marked invalid. This invalidation is done by clearing the
flags, start, and end members.
When adding the initial resources to the bus later, invalid resources are
skipped. Unfortunately, the check for an invalid resource considers only
the end member, causing false positives.
E.g. on r8a7791/koelsch, root bus resource 0 ("bus 00") is skipped, and no

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
posix-timers: Prevent RT livelock in itimer_delete()
itimer_delete() has a retry loop when the timer is concurrently expired. On
non-RT kernels this just spin-waits until the timer callback has completed,
except for posix CPU timers which have HAVE_POSIX_CPU_TIMERS_TASK_WORK
enabled.
In that case and on RT kernels the existing task could live lock when
preempting the task which does the timer delivery.
Replace spin_unlock() with an invocation of timer_wait_running() to handle
it the same way as the other retry loops in the posix timer code. |
