Description
The rsyncd service of the CGM CLININET is vulnerable to Authentication Bypass via IP spoofing. Access is granted based solely on the client's source IP address. An attacker able to spoof an allowed IP address, can bypass this check and gain the ability to edit files on the affected system.

The vulnerability was confirmed to affect versions up to 2026.MS3 but later versions may also be vulnerable.

Impact

The rsyncd service runs on CGM CLININET and relies solely on the client's source IP address for authentication. An attacker capable of spoofing a permitted IP address can gain write access to files on the system, enabling potential further compromise.

Affected Systems

Vendor CGM; product CGM CLININET. All versions up to 2026.MS3 are confirmed vulnerable, with the possibility that later releases may also be affected.

Risk and Exploitability

The CVSS score of 8.8 indicates high severity. EPSS is unavailable, so the current exploitation probability cannot be quantified, and the vulnerability is not listed in CISA KEV. Attackers would need to spoof a trusted IP to reach the rsyncd service, implying a remote network-based attack vector where authentication is entirely bypassed by IP spoofing.

Remediation

No solution or workaround provided in the CVE record.

OpenCVE Recommended Actions

  • Apply the latest CGM CLININET update that includes the rsyncd authentication fix.
  • Reconfigure the rsyncd daemon to require a password or SSH key authentication instead of allowing access based solely on source IP.
  • Restrict rsyncd to listen only on local interfaces or tightly defined trusted subnets, and block spoofed traffic.
