Impact
A command injection flaw exists in the Studio Space startup validation script of Amazon SageMaker Distribution. An authenticated user with project contributor permissions can craft a connection resource property that is incorporated unsanitized into a shell invocation, allowing execution of arbitrary commands. The exploit can also provide attackers with temporary execution role credentials of other project members, potentially enabling broader compromise.
Affected Systems
Amazon SageMaker Distribution versions 2.x (before 2.14.12), 3.x (before 3.9.12), 4.0.x (before 4.0.11), 4.1.x (before 4.1.11), 4.2.x (before 4.2.8), 4.3.x (before 4.3.5), and 4.4.x (before 4.4.3) when deployed in Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio.
Risk and Exploitability
The vulnerability carries a CVSS score of 9.3 and is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog. The EPSS score is 1%, but the high CVSS indicates significant risk. Attackers need valid contributor access within a project; once authenticated, they can execute commands on a different project member’s Studio Space. Because no patch will be released for unsupported minor lines, vulnerable instances remain at risk until an upgrade is performed.
