Impact
The vulnerability lies in the aggressive decryption routine of the Excelize library, which accepts an attacker-controlled spinCount parameter in the OLE encrypted‑workbook header. When this value is set excessively high, the password‑key derivation loop performs that many iterations before any password verification occurs, consuming CPU resources for an attacker‑chosen duration. The flaw does not allow code execution or disclosure of information, but it can degrade system performance or deny service to legitimate users by monopolizing processor time.
Affected Systems
qax-os Excelize, versions 2.3.1 through 2.11.0 inclusive are affected. Any application that loads Excel files using these library versions is at risk.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score of 7.5 indicates a high severity impact. EPSS is not available, and the vulnerability is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog. The attack vector is inferred to be local or network‑based delivery of a malicious workbook file that is processed by an application using the vulnerable library, at which point the CPU‑intensive key‑derivation loop will be executed with the supplied spinCount.
