Impact
The vulnerability resides in Craft CMS versions 5.0.0 through 5.10.x. It allows authenticated Control Panel users to inject transformation keys into the Asset::getMimeType method, causing the framework’s Craft::createObject function to be called with unfiltered 'as' or 'on' parameters. This bypasses the Twig sandbox and lets attackers attach malicious behaviors or event handlers that execute arbitrary code in the web‑user context, leading to full remote code execution.
Affected Systems
Impact applies to all installations of Craft CMS 5.0.0 to 5.10.99, including the craftcms:cms product. The vulnerability is present in all releases before the 5.11.0 release.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score of 8.7 classifies this flaw as high severity. Although EPSS data is unavailable and the vulnerability is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog, the requirement of an authenticated Control Panel user does not mitigate the risk for sites that expose the CP to a broader audience or have privileged users. Attackers can trigger the flaw remotely via crafted requests that supply the vulnerable transformation keys, making the exploit achievable through the web application interface.
