Impact
QuickJS-NG before version 0.16.0 has a memory leak in the js_atomics_store function where the converted value is not freed when a RangeError is returned. This leak can be triggered repeatedly by JavaScript code that calls Atomics.store with a valueOf that detaches or shrinks the buffer, causing heap memory to be exhausted and the system to become unresponsive.
Affected Systems
The vulnerability affects the quickjs-ng QuickJS-NG engine in any release prior to 0.16.0. Users of these earlier versions are exposed to the memory exhaustion flaw regardless of platform.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score of 6.9 indicates a moderate severity impact. The EPSS score is not available, and the vulnerability is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog. Attackers require the ability to execute JavaScript within the QuickJS-NG runtime, which is typically available to embedded system code or scripts. The lossy memory leak can be exploited to cause denial of service by exhausting available heap space.
