Impact
Insufficient policy enforcement in Chrome extensions allows an attacker who persuades a user to install a malicious extension to inject arbitrary scripts or HTML (UXSS) through a crafted Chrome Extension. This flaw can result in the execution of arbitrary code in the context of the browser and may compromise the confidentiality and integrity of the user's data.
Affected Systems
Google Chrome installers before version 151.0.7922.72 are affected. The issue applies to all operating systems supported by Chrome where the user has installed extensions.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score of 4.2 indicates a medium impact, and the EPSS score of less than 1% suggests a low probability of exploitation at present. The vulnerability requires user interaction and social engineering to convince a victim to install a malicious extension, so it is not a remote attack vector. The flaw is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog.
