Description
Zammad is a web based open source helpdesk/customer support system. Prior to 7.0.2, an authorization bypass vulnerability was found that allows an authenticated agent to read knowledge base answer content they should not be able to access. The vulnerable GraphQL mutation is meant to transform a knowledge base answer suggestion so it can be inserted into the ticket editor, but it only checks if the user has the ticket.agent permission. Checking the authorization to the knowledge base answer itself is missing. This vulnerability is fixed in 7.0.2.

Impact

The issue is an authorization bypass in a GraphQL mutation that transforms knowledge base answer suggestions. It only verifies the ticket.agent permission, neglecting to check access to the answer itself, letting authenticated agents read content they shouldn’t see. This vulnerability results in information disclosure of knowledge base answers. The weakness corresponds to CWE‑862, Missing Authorization.

Affected Systems

Affected product: Zammad, all releases prior to version 7.0.2. The vulnerability applies to any authenticated agent possessing the ticket.agent permission.

Risk and Exploitability

The CVSS score of 2.1 classifies the issue as low severity. EPSS score is not available and the vulnerability is not listed in CISA KEV. Exploitation requires an authenticated agent, so the attack vector is internal; no public remote exploitation is possible. The overall risk is low, but the information disclosure remains a valid concern that should be mitigated promptly.

Remediation

No solution or workaround provided in the CVE record.

OpenCVE Recommended Actions

  • Upgrade Zammad to version 7.0.2 or later to apply the fix.
  • If an upgrade is not immediately feasible, restrict the use of the ticket.agent permission or disable the specific GraphQL mutation until the patch is applied.
  • Review and enforce knowledge base answer permissions and monitor logs for abnormal read activity.
