Impact
The vulnerability allows an attacker to use a token not issued by the configured issuer when the Keycloak introspection response does not include an "iss" claim. In that situation the Camel authentication processor skips issuer validation, accepting the token as valid. The flaw therefore permits authentication bypass for specific tokens that would otherwise be rejected, compromising confidentiality and integrity of the application’s security controls.
Affected Systems
Affected deliveries are Apache Camel from version 4.15.0 up to, but not including, 4.18.5, and from 4.19.0 up to, but not including, 4.22.1. Users on the 4.18.x LTS line should upgrade to 4.18.5, and those on the 4.22.x LTS line should upgrade to 4.22.1, with the latest available release being 4.23.0.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score of 4.8 classifies the flaw as low impact under normal conditions; the EPSS score is not disclosed and the issue is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog. Exploitation requires a non‑default introspection endpoint that omits the "iss" claim and accepts tokens from multiple issuers, a configuration that is not common in stock Keycloak deployments. Consequently, the real‑world risk is limited, though the vulnerability can still be abused in environments with the described configuration.
