Impact
The flaw is an improper authorization check in the SafeBrowsing component of Google Chrome. A remote attacker can deliver specially crafted network traffic to the browser, causing SafeBrowsing to bypass system access restrictions. This vulnerability is identified as CWE-863.
Affected Systems
The issue exists in all versions of Google Chrome older than 154.0.8037.57. Machines running any earlier stable channel release of Chrome that still employ the default SafeBrowsing implementation are exposed. The affected product is Google Chrome across all platforms.
Risk and Exploitability
The CVSS score of 4.8 reflects a low impact. The EPSS score is less than 1%, indicating a small likelihood of exploitation. The vulnerability is not included in CISA’s KEV catalog. Based on the description, it is inferred that an attacker can exploit the flaw remotely by sending crafted packets over the network; no user interaction or elevated privileges are required beyond normal browsing activity. Given the low severity and exploitation probability, active exploitation is unlikely, though the flaw remains valid for remediation.
