CVSS v3.1 |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
drm/xe: Fix oops in xe_gem_fault when running core_hotunplug test.
I saw an oops in xe_gem_fault when running the xe-fast-feedback
testlist against the realtime kernel without debug options enabled.
The panic happens after core_hotunplug unbind-rebind finishes.
Presumably what happens is that a process mmaps, unlocks because
of the FAULT_FLAG_RETRY_NOWAIT logic, has no process memory left,
causing ttm_bo_vm_dummy_page() to return VM_FAULT_NOPAGE, since
there was nothing left to populate, and then oopses in
"mem_type_is_vram(tbo->resource->mem_type)" because tbo->resource
is NULL.
It's convoluted, but fits the data and explains the oops after
the test exits. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
dm: fix a race condition in retrieve_deps
There's a race condition in the multipath target when retrieve_deps
races with multipath_message calling dm_get_device and dm_put_device.
retrieve_deps walks the list of open devices without holding any lock
but multipath may add or remove devices to the list while it is
running. The end result may be memory corruption or use-after-free
memory access.
See this description of a UAF with multipath_message():
https://listman.redhat.com/archives/dm-devel/2022-October/052373.html
Fix this bug by introducing a new rw semaphore "devices_lock". We grab
devices_lock for read in retrieve_deps and we grab it for write in
dm_get_device and dm_put_device. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
futex: Don't leak robust_list pointer on exec race
sys_get_robust_list() and compat_get_robust_list() use ptrace_may_access()
to check if the calling task is allowed to access another task's
robust_list pointer. This check is racy against a concurrent exec() in the
target process.
During exec(), a task may transition from a non-privileged binary to a
privileged one (e.g., setuid binary) and its credentials/memory mappings
may change. If get_robust_list() performs ptrace_may_access() before
this transition, it may erroneously allow access to sensitive information
after the target becomes privileged.
A racy access allows an attacker to exploit a window during which
ptrace_may_access() passes before a target process transitions to a
privileged state via exec().
For example, consider a non-privileged task T that is about to execute a
setuid-root binary. An attacker task A calls get_robust_list(T) while T
is still unprivileged. Since ptrace_may_access() checks permissions
based on current credentials, it succeeds. However, if T begins exec
immediately afterwards, it becomes privileged and may change its memory
mappings. Because get_robust_list() proceeds to access T->robust_list
without synchronizing with exec() it may read user-space pointers from a
now-privileged process.
This violates the intended post-exec access restrictions and could
expose sensitive memory addresses or be used as a primitive in a larger
exploit chain. Consequently, the race can lead to unauthorized
disclosure of information across privilege boundaries and poses a
potential security risk.
Take a read lock on signal->exec_update_lock prior to invoking
ptrace_may_access() and accessing the robust_list/compat_robust_list.
This ensures that the target task's exec state remains stable during the
check, allowing for consistent and synchronized validation of
credentials. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
bnxt_en: Shutdown FW DMA in bnxt_shutdown()
The netif_close() call in bnxt_shutdown() only stops packet DMA. There
may be FW DMA for trace logging (recently added) that will continue. If
we kexec to a new kernel, the DMA will corrupt memory in the new kernel.
Add bnxt_hwrm_func_drv_unrgtr() to unregister the driver from the FW.
This will stop the FW DMA. In case the call fails, call pcie_flr() to
reset the function and stop the DMA. |

[ 8569.952973] </TASK>
The likely cause is that init_waitqueue_head() is called after the call to
the torture_create_kthread() function that creates the ref_scale_reader
kthread. Although this init_waitqueue_head() call will very likely
complete before this kthread is created and starts running, it is
possible that the calling kthread will be delayed between the calls to
torture_create_kthread() and init_waitqueue_head(). In this case, the
new kthread will use the waitqueue head before it is properly initialized,
which is not good for the kernel's health and well-being.
The above crash happened here:
static inline void __add_wait_queue(...)
{
:
if (!(wq->flags & WQ_FLAG_PRIORITY)) <=== Crash here
The offset of flags from list_head entry in wait_queue_entry is
-0x18. If reader_tasks[i].wq.head.next is NULL as allocated reader_task
structure is zero initialized, the instruction will try to access address
0xffffffffffffffe8, which is exactly the fault address listed above.
This commit therefore invokes init_waitqueue_head() before creating
the kthread. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
drm/sched: Fix deadlock in drm_sched_entity_kill_jobs_cb
The Mesa issue referenced below pointed out a possible deadlock:
[ 1231.611031] Possible interrupt unsafe locking scenario:
[ 1231.611033] CPU0 CPU1
[ 1231.611034] ---- ----
[ 1231.611035] lock(&xa->xa_lock#17);

[ 1231.611044] <Interrupt>
[ 1231.611045] lock(&fence->lock);
[ 1231.611047]
*** DEADLOCK ***
In this example, CPU0 would be any function accessing job->dependencies
through the xa_* functions that don't disable interrupts (eg:
drm_sched_job_add_dependency(), drm_sched_entity_kill_jobs_cb()).
CPU1 is executing drm_sched_entity_kill_jobs_cb() as a fence signalling
callback so in an interrupt context. It will deadlock when trying to
grab the xa_lock which is already held by CPU0.
Replacing all xa_* usage by their xa_*_irq counterparts would fix
this issue, but Christian pointed out another issue: dma_fence_signal
takes fence.lock and so does dma_fence_add_callback.
dma_fence_signal() // locks f1.lock
-> drm_sched_entity_kill_jobs_cb()
-> foreach dependencies
-> dma_fence_add_callback() // locks f2.lock
This will deadlock if f1 and f2 share the same spinlock.
To fix both issues, the code iterating on dependencies and re-arming them
is moved out to drm_sched_entity_kill_jobs_work().

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net: phy: micrel: always set shared->phydev for LAN8814
Currently, during the LAN8814 PTP probe shared->phydev is only set if PTP
clock gets actually set, otherwise the function will return before setting
it.
This is an issue as shared->phydev is unconditionally being used when IRQ
is being handled, especially in lan8814_gpio_process_cap and since it was
not set it will cause a NULL pointer exception and crash the kernel.
So, simply always set shared->phydev to avoid the NULL pointer exception. |

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
perf/core: Fix system hang caused by cpu-clock usage
cpu-clock usage by the async-profiler tool can trigger a system hang,
which got bisected back to the following commit by Octavia Togami:
18dbcbfabfff ("perf: Fix the POLL_HUP delivery breakage") causes this issue
The root cause of the hang is that cpu-clock is a special type of SW
event which relies on hrtimers. The __perf_event_overflow() callback
is invoked from the hrtimer handler for cpu-clock events, and
__perf_event_overflow() tries to call cpu_clock_event_stop()
to stop the event, which calls htimer_cancel() to cancel the hrtimer.
But that's a recursion into the hrtimer code from a hrtimer handler,
which (unsurprisingly) deadlocks.
To fix this bug, use hrtimer_try_to_cancel() instead, and set
the PERF_HES_STOPPED flag, which causes perf_swevent_hrtimer()
to stop the event once it sees the PERF_HES_STOPPED flag.

ext4_incvert_inline_data_nolock() for data files which we'll fix at
the same time.

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
usb: typec: bus: verify partner exists in typec_altmode_attention
Some usb hubs will negotiate DisplayPort Alt mode with the device
but will then negotiate a data role swap after entering the alt
mode. The data role swap causes the device to unregister all alt
modes, however the usb hub will still send Attention messages
even after failing to reregister the Alt Mode. type_altmode_attention
currently does not verify whether or not a device's altmode partner
exists, which results in a NULL pointer error when dereferencing
the typec_altmode and typec_altmode_ops belonging to the altmode
partner.
Verify the presence of a device's altmode partner before sending
the Attention message to the Alt Mode driver. |

btrfs: zoned: fix memory leak after finding block group with super blocks
At exclude_super_stripes(), if we happen to find a block group that has
super blocks mapped to it and we are on a zoned filesystem, we error out
as this is not supposed to happen, indicating either a bug or maybe some
memory corruption for example. However we are exiting the function without
freeing the memory allocated for the logical address of the super blocks.
Fix this by freeing the logical address. |

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
scsi: qedf: Fix NULL dereference in error handling
Smatch reported:
drivers/scsi/qedf/qedf_main.c:3056 qedf_alloc_global_queues()
warn: missing unwind goto?
At this point in the function, nothing has been allocated so we can return
directly. In particular the "qedf->global_queues" have not been allocated
so calling qedf_free_global_queues() will lead to a NULL dereference when
we check if (!gl[i]) and "gl" is NULL. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
can: hi311x: fix null pointer dereference when resuming from sleep before interface was enabled
This issue is similar to the vulnerability in the `mcp251x` driver,
which was fixed in commit 03c427147b2d ("can: mcp251x: fix resume from
sleep before interface was brought up").
In the `hi311x` driver, when the device resumes from sleep, the driver
schedules `priv->restart_work`. However, if the network interface was
not previously enabled, the `priv->wq` (workqueue) is not allocated and
initialized, leading to a null pointer dereference.
To fix this, we move the allocation and initialization of the workqueue
from the `hi3110_open` function to the `hi3110_can_probe` function.
This ensures that the workqueue is properly initialized before it is
used during device resume. And added logic to destroy the workqueue
in the error handling paths of `hi3110_can_probe` and in the
`hi3110_can_remove` function to prevent resource leaks. |
