Impact

The vulnerability allows an attacker with high privileges to inject reserved Apache configuration directives during domain creation, corrupting httpd.conf and preventing Apache from starting after a reboot. This results in a denial of service of the web server and any hosted virtual hosts.

Affected Systems

Koozali SME Server version 11.0rc1-215.

Risk and Exploitability

The CVSS score of 6.9 indicates medium severity. EPSS data is not available, so the exact likelihood of exploitation cannot be quantified, but the vulnerability is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog. Exploitability requires high privileges to create a domain, suggesting that it is a local privilege escalation or privileged user scenario. If an attacker gains such privileges, this flaw can stop Apache from starting after a reboot, causing persistent downtime for the affected services.

Remediation

No solution or workaround provided in the CVE record.

OpenCVE Recommended Actions

  • Upgrade SME Server to the latest version that contains the fix for this issue, or apply the vendor-provided patch if available.
  • Restrict access to the domain creation interface to trusted administrators only, ensuring that only users with legitimate needs can create domains and modify Apache configuration.
  • Implement integrity checks or automated backups for httpd.conf before changes, and have a rapid recovery strategy for restarting Apache in case of configuration corruption.
